And if I’m only here for a season

Let me reach up and brush the sky with the tips of my fingers

Let my toes sink into the Earth

So my spirit can take root

And if I’m only here for a season

Let it be so beautiful

That I may carry some sunshine in my back pocket

So I can take it out

When the days grow colder

And if I’m only here for a season

Let me sit on the top of the highest peak

And watch the last of the summer sun

Brush the tips of the valley beneath it

And if I’m only here for a season

Let me plant some seeds

Let me water them

And hold the sun’s hand

So I can guide its rays

So someone, somewhere, somehow

May stop and pick some flowers

To put on their dining room table

While they discuss their days

With the ones they love

And if I’m only here for a season

I’ll look back and smile

knowing I’m here for a reason

My comments are not all going through, so I hope you receive these. Beautiful imagery, metaphors and use of personification – “holding the sun’s hands” – love it! How are your classes, Grace, and the culture? Continue to share your experiences in poetry! Love, Lynda
